The Sri Padmavathi Ammavari temple at Tiruchanoor is the temple of Goddess Padmavathi, the consort of Lord Venkateswara, about 5 km from Tirupati. Many pilgrims visit her before going up to Tirumala. Why pilgrims visit Tiruchanoor first

TTD describes Tiruchanoor as one of the oldest pilgrim towns in the area. There is a strong belief among pilgrims that they should visit Goddess Padmavathi and seek her blessings before they see Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala.

According to the legend TTD records, the goddess emerged on a golden lotus in the temple tank, Padmasarovaram. King Akasharaja and his wife Dharanidevi found her in a thousand-petalled lotus during a sacrificial ceremony. When she grew up, Lord Venkateswara came in search of her, and the celestial marriage of Lord Srinivasa and Goddess Padmavathi took place. The temple was built in the time of Tondaman Chakravarthi, whom the legend names as the goddess’s elder brother.

Daily sevas and darshan tickets

TTD lists the daily sevas below. Friday is the day the morning shifts: Suprabhatam moves from 4.30 am to 3.30 am, Sahasranamarchana from 5 am to 4 am, and Ekantha Seva at night from 9.30 pm to 9.45 pm. Prices are as shown on tirumala.org, which may lag the booking portal, so confirm when you book.

For darshan, TTD lists a ₹50 darshan ticket during Sarvadarsanam, a ₹200 Supadham Entry Darshan, and VIP Break Darshan at ₹250 from 11.30 am to 12 noon.

Weekly and monthly sevas

Several sevas are performed only on certain days. On Monday, Astadala Pada Padmaradhana Seva is at 7 am (₹300). On Thursday, Tiruppavada Seva is at 7 am (₹1,000). Friday is the busiest seva day: Abhishekam and Vastralankaran Seva at 5.30 am (₹500 and ₹10,000), Abhishekananthara Darshan at 7 am (₹250) and Lakshmi Puja at 9.30 am (₹100). On Saturday, Pushpanjali Seva is at 7 am (₹300). On the first Wednesday of each month, Astothara Satakalasabhishekam is performed at 7 am (₹1,000).

Through the year TTD also lists Vasantotsavam in May, Pavithrotsavam in September and Laksha Kumkumarchana in November, along with Pushpayagam and Varalakshmi Vratham. During the Kartheeka Brahmotsavams, vahana sevas are held from 8 am to 10 am and 7 pm to 9 pm each day, and the temple is at its most crowded.

Fitting Tiruchanoor into a Tirumala trip

Tiruchanoor is 5 km and about 5 min by road from Tirupati, so most pilgrims visit on the day they arrive in Tirupati or the morning before going up the hill. Avoid the 11.30 am to 12 noon slot if you do not have a VIP break ticket, and allow extra time on Fridays, when the abhishekam and weekly sevas fill the morning.
