Bhakta Ramadasu and Sri Rama Navami
The temple is closely tied to Kancherla Gopanna, remembered as Bhakta Ramadasu. According to the Devasthanam, he was the nephew of Akkanna and Madanna and served as Tahsildar. He spent government revenue building the Rama temple and was imprisoned for twelve years for it. The Devasthanam records that Thanisha later ordered pearls and gems to be sent to Lord Rama and Seetha at the time of the Kalyanotsavam.
Sri Rama Navami, when the celestial wedding of Seetha and Rama is celebrated, is the temple’s biggest day and draws very large crowds. Expect the normal timings to change around the festival, and check the Devasthanam’s notifications before you travel.
